Partnership boosts access to genomics solutions

Laboratory solutions and services provider Lasec in April announced that it has partnered with global leader in applied genomics Revvity, noting that the partnership is designed to expand access to advanced genomics solutions across the sub-Saharan African (SSA) region.

Lasec is a Silver Partner of the analytica Lab Africa 2025 event – which is co-located with the IFAT Africa at the Gallagher Convention Centre and is taking place from July 8 to 10.

The company notes that the collaboration means it is an official channel partner for Revvity’s Applied Genomics portfolio, giving African laboratories access to innovative tools for genomic research. “By combining Revvity’s innovation with Lasec’s on-the-ground experience, this partnership allows local [laboratories] to adopt world-class genomic technologies with reliable, localised support,” Lasec says.

It adds that SSA is increasingly emerging as a significant player in biotechnology and health sciences. However, many regional laboratories face limitations in technology access and technical guidance. The partnership addresses these gaps.

Lasec notes that sample homogenisation tools are essential for preparing high-quality biological material for downstream analysis. It cites Revvity’s offerings, including sonicators and homogenisers, which play an important role in ensuring uniformity and consistency in samples, thereby improving data reproducibility in genomic research.

Further, “Revvity’s magnetic-bead-based chemagic technology provides low to high-throughput solutions for different sample materials’ needs. The isolated DNA/RNA is suitable for a range of downstream applications such as next-generation sequencing (NGS), multiplex ligation probe amplification, genotyping and polymerase chain reaction, thus, helping African labs achieve fast and reliable results.”

Lasec adds that NGS relies heavily on precise and consistent library preparation. Revvity’s Nextflex NGS library preparation kits, combined with automated liquid handling systems, are designed to reduce manual steps and human error.

Additionally, the Labchip GX Touch leverages microfluidic technology, enabling DNA, RNA and protein quantification through capillary electrophoresis, which is optimal for NGS library preparation and DNA/RNA fragment analysis. “This provides unparalleled genomic data quality with minimal input requirements.”

Lasec adds that automation minimises errors, increases reproducibility, and reduces manual labour. “With Revvity and Lasec’s support, laboratories now have access to tools that drive high-throughput efficiency while maintaining the highest quality standards,” it concludes.
